Ki-o-rahi is the most recent addition to the Central Hawke's Bay College sporting roster entering its first team into the HB Secondary Inter-School competition last year. This involvement has helped to generate continued interest and further growth of the sport here at CHBC.
The game of Ki-o-rahi is based on the traditional Maori purakau of Rahitutakahina and the rescue of his wife Tiarakurapakewai. Playing the games enables participants to develop and enhance a wide range of defensive and offensive skills. This includes running, sidestepping, evasion, catching, throwing, shooting, blocking. It also promotes team work and communication.
