OPPORTUNITIES
Central Hawke’s Bay College offers a wide range of courses and has specialist teachers across the curriculum. Curriculum is covered by seven Faculties which are, English, Social Science, Technology, Arts and Languages, Mathematics, Science, and Physical Education. The College has a history of matching the needs of the students to the courses we offer. Some of our courses offer students the opportunity to experience life outside the classroom and to visit places throughout New Zealand. International students are involved in Year 10 Journeys, which are run during Senior Examination times. Students may select from a variety of activities such as Skiing (Mount Tongariro), Mountain Biking (Rotorua), Day Trips around Hawke's Bay, Tourist Activities around Taupo and an extensive trip to the upper North Island.
CULTURAL / EXTRA CURRICULAR
Students are welcomed to our school with a traditional Maori Pohiri, and also have the opportunity to participate in the preparation and consumption of a traditional Maori Hangi. Our local Youth Group EPIC provide an awesome programme for teenagers that encourages active participation in a variety of activities. It is an inclusive group providing support to our local youth. Students develop strong friendships in a supportive environment. Students will be encouraged to participate in Interhouse Music, and Kapahaka competitions. Students may also choose to take individual music or singing lessons. Also any Drama productions underway during the students stay in New Zealand. Students may also begin or continue Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Specific international class trips will be organised. These offer experiences such as visiting Te Papa National Museum, The National Aquarium of New Zealand, iconic sites both locally and nationally such as Hobbiton, Parliament, Te Mata Peak, WETA workshop.
SPORTS
International students have the same opportunities to participate in any sports available to domestic students during the time of their stay. This will include the Inter-house Sports competitions eg. Triathlon, Athletics, Cross Country and weekly inter-school competitions run as extra curricular programme's. Sports on offer include Tennis, Badminton, Football, Rugby, Netball, Clay Target Shooting, Volleyball, Touch Rugby, Basketball, Cricket, Triathlon. Students may also join local community clubs such as Cycling, Bowls, Athletics.
FACILITIES
Central Hawke’s Bay College is set on 17 hectares of beautifully kept landscaped grounds.
We have a large assembly hall, Gymnasium and Canteen.
A modern Technology block incorporating specialist wood, metal, design, food, textiles, and digital technology.
Modern specialist Science, Physics and Chemistry Laboratories.
Several dedicated computer suites supported with COWs. (computer on wheels)
Drama Room, Music Suite incorporating practice rooms.
Well-equipped Library
Learning Support centre incorporating, international students, ESOL, correspondence, careers, guidance, school Health nurses and STAR / Gateway.
Our Whare (Te Kupenga a Te Huki) is proudly sited at the main school entrance.
In close proximity to the College is the A.W Parsons heated indoor 25 meter lap pool, adjacent fitness centre, indoor sports stadium and outdoor multi sports turf arena.
All weather Tennis and squash courts are also nearby.
