Our congratulations are extended to all past and present students as finalists, winners, and awardees at the recent Central Hawke’s Bay Sports Awards.
The award evening was held last Friday 24 May at the CHB Municipal Theatre in Waipawa.
The evening began with an inaugural ‘Inspiration Award’ which was deservedly presented to staff member Mrs. Jo Baker. This award recognised Jo’s Triathlon achievement at the world age group Triathlon Championships held in Spain, subsequent to a life-threatening cycling accident.
Year 11 student Caitlin Kirk was named as the Emerging Athlete for her Running and Gym / Tramp achievements.
However, it was her brother and former student Lachie Kirk who took out both the Junior Sportsperson and the overall Premier Sportsperson Awards. It was back-to-back awards for Lachie who unfortunately was unable to attend on the night.
A highlight of the evening was the induction of international rower Fiona Bourke into the Central Hawke’s Bay Sporting Hall of Fame. World Champion and Olympian rower, Fiona was Dux of the College in 2006.
More great examples of ‘Achieve With Honour’.
