This term a team from our Māori Student Council have completed a whakataukī display project for the college library wall.
The whakataukī “Whaowhia te kete mātauranga” means “Fill the basket with knowledge” and is an apt choice for our information commons area.
According to the book Mauri Ora by Peter Alsop and Te Rau Kupenga “A kete in the Māori world is also synonymous with a basket of choice; a choice of what contents go in and get taken out and, once removed, how they are used for best effect.” (pg 20)
This has been a student-led project with the girls working independently to both choose a whakataukī that best represents our library space and then create the wall display, which looks great nestled amongst the other existing quotes on the wall!
Pictured here is the work in progress and the team of girls who constructed the display; Aaliyah Grace, Breeze Parker, Samara Taylor and Emma Nepe-Apatu Hulena.
