Our Senior Premier Tournament Team left for Wellington on Saturday, to compete in the Lower North Island Secondary Schools Winter Tournament Week.
Day one left them 3 players down due to injuries, but the girls were amazing and supportive and played their hearts out with a win and a loss. Day two we had two great wins. Tuesday saw them winning again and one injured player back in action - making them winners of their pool and moving up a pool.
The girls are working hard on their games, positivity all round and are looking forward to a later start time on day four.
FOOTBALL - Girls First XI
It's been a busy, tiring first few days of tournament, carrying several players with injuries.
We are experiencing challenging games against top teams and top players in balmy Palmy weather including a rain shower during our second game yesterday.
Our lack of preparation, due to short notice, for tournament fitness is against us. As a relatively new inexperienced team, tournament is a great experience to build on for next year. The girls are still giving it thier all with dogged determination and courage.
Pool play finishes tomorrow and we should have some competitive games in the knockout stages.
FOOTBALL - Male First XI
On Monday we left the College to head for New Plymouth.
We were in Pool A with Francis Douglas Memorial College, Tauranga Boys High School (The biggest boy's school in NZ with 2200 students) Upper Hutt and Te Puke High School.
Our first game on Tuesday was versus FDMC. A tight contest finished 1-1, it was an end to end contest with chances for both teams.
On Wednesday we played TBC, a tough challenge as they had just won the Super 8 Football. The game was tight at half time, TBC up 2-0, the game ended 8-0. The second game was versus Upper Hutt, in glorious New Plymouth sunshine, Upper Hutt pounced on a defensive error to take a 1-0 lead at half time. The story of the second half was wave after wave of attacks. The game finished 0-1. leaving CHBC with the chance to finish 3rd in our pool to play off for 9th overall. We play our last pool game today, then proceed to the knockout stages.
So far it has been a great week, good weather and great football despite the results. Everyone is in good heart and enjoying the beach, swimming pool and all the other delights of New Plymouth.
