Big Sing

On Wednesday 21st June our Central Hawke’s Bay College school choir ‘CENTRIFUGALS’ presented three items at the The Big Sing choir competition at the Toitoi Hawke’s Bay Arts & Events Centre in Hastings.

The three items were; The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel, Pachelbel’s Canon of Peace and Whakamoemiti by Stan Walker.

The talent from all schools were amazing.  Each Hawke’s Bay secondary school that was represented at the competition were asked to present an item for the evening concert.  We decided to choose Whakamoemiti.

After each school presented their favourite item, the awards ceremony began.  Central Hawke’s Bay College won the prize for the best performance of a piece in te reo Māori.  It was a proud moment for all who were there from Central Hawke’s Bay; students, teachers, parents and supporters.  A huge thank you to Ms Tess Tobin, Mrs Nicola Harrison and Mr Lomi Schaumkel for putting together an amazing programme in a short amount of time.

Choir members are: Ben Berry, Isaac Ellwood, Spencer Ellwood, Tommie-Lee Hunter Pekepo, Carin Lennartsson, Veronica Mills, Haruna Nagasawa, Jemma Nesbit, Alee Paterson, Callum Pearce, Ordania Rani, Rachel Renner, Hezekiah Schaumkel, Brook Taylor, Isaki Uchida, Jessica Valentine, Reese Whakataka.  Congratulations to all.
