LNISS Netball Tournament

Twelve of our senior netball players played in the CHB Senior winter tournament team at Lower North Island Secondary Schools tournament held at Hastings Sports Park. It was a fun but tough week for the girls, with two injuries and one family illness resulting in three players no longer able to play by Thursday. This meant two junior premier players were invited to join the team and support them over the last two days of competition.

The team was placed in the B grade of the competition and one win in the three pool games at the start of the week meant they avoided the bottom four. Wednesday to Friday saw them play 6 games, 5 they lost, but then they played a brilliant final game against Kuranui College to win 29-16 and place 15th overall out of 20 teams.

CHB were the talk of the umpires over the week. It was reported they were the most respectful team towards their opposition and umpires. Clearly, they displayed the best sportsmanship out of all teams when umpires were fighting over who got to umpire the CHB games. Well done girls on your efforts over the week and for displaying our College values on and off the court.

Thank you must also be said to Mrs Lou Macklow for coaching the Senior Premier team over the season as well as the tournament team over this week. Also, Mrs Wendy Mackey and Mrs Malissa Webster, your support for the girls both on and off the court over the tournament week was very much appreciated.

Hockey Tournament

After fundraising for three years but being thwarted by COVID we finally headed off to Whangarei.

The week started well with a 11-0 win on the hockey field followed by some team bonding activities of bowling and laser force.

The next day we played the 2nd ranked team and went down 4-1. The score did not reflect the eveness of the two teams ability. Next up we played the reigning champions, a tough loss as it was nil all until the last two minutes in a game that could have gone either way.

Comments on the side-line included “that game was final worthy”

We finished on a high note winning our last two games 14-1 and 6-0 respectively. It was some consolation that the final was between the two teams that beat CHB and ended in a penalty shoot- out.

We finished in 5th place overall and second highest goal scorers as a team.

A huge thank you to all involved in this trip. Special mention to Mrs Kimberley Booth and Mrs Robyn Southward for their work in keeping us fed and a massive thanks to Mr Keegan Merwood and Mr Glen Millar for coaching and managing our team throughout the season, putting up with us all.

The improvement shown both individually and as a team was commendable. The team atmosphere made this a memorable experience.
