Message from the Head Prefects

Kia ora Parents, teachers, and students at Central Hawke's Bay College,

As we have found ourselves in yet another period of lockdown here in Central Hawke's Bay, we, Head Prefects Lydia Bucknell and Matt Hulena, are here to send thanks, discuss requirements for students of all year levels, and to remind you how great you are doing during this challenging time.

First, we would like to express our thanks to the parents of Central Hawke's Bay College We as teenagers and young adults understand your position when trying to get your awesome teenager(s) to do the schoolwork required. It is important that they attend online class meetings via zoom or other requested platforms notified by teachers, as work is still to be taught.

We also understand family time is a huge part of lockdown. Take this opportunity to spend as much time with your children as you can, love and support them as we know this time can create a lot of pressure and stress. We have a few good ideas for you and your family during lockdown. Go for a family bike ride/run/walk up and down our new and beautiful Tukituki limestone trails, have a sports competition in the backyard. Get competitive in an area you all have an interest in. You could even set up an exam quiz night with questions relating to your teenager's mock exam topics.

We would also like to say a massive thank you to all the teachers for the amazing work you are all putting in to stay in contact with us and to give us the work we need. As soon as lockdown was announced, we all had emails in our inbox of what the next days would bring. You have all adapted so well and have made it so much easier for the students to do the same. We encourage you to also use this time to reflect and refresh, you all work so hard to give us the best education and we are so grateful to you for that. So, take some of this time for yourselves and your families and keep up the good work.

Now, to our fellow Students, we would like you to know we understand what you're thinking and the pressure you are under as your assessments are becoming due. We as your Head Prefects are also experiencing this so we have some advice we would like to share with you on your upcoming assessments and mock exams. Seniors Study, Study, Study, now that you have a lot of time to spare, take advantage of it and prepare for your upcoming mock exams. We want to express how important these benchmarks are to your current year so make sure you study properly, start to prepare, use some past exams, study, and revise.

Juniors complete your CAM assessments that are due and stop annoying your older siblings ðŸ˜‰. Your teachers are available to contact for help with your assessments or work-related tasks. You guys are all doing awesome keep it up. Kia kaha.

Finally, just a few reminders for everyone so we can make the most of this lockdown period. Make sure you are creating a good balance of everything. It is important that during this time you are working on your schoolwork and making sure you are keeping up to date with everything. As we said at the start of the term, this is an important one so we encourage you to make schedules and timetables so you can work on everything that needs to be done. It is also important that you are taking time for yourselves. Make sure you are getting exercise and are staying away from the screens. Lastly spend some time with family and friends on Zoom or FaceTime your group of friends, play a board game or have a movie night connecting with those you love is important during this time.

As your Heads of school, we express our thanks to you all, we are here for anything you need whether that be advice, help with schoolwork, study tips, someone to talk to or someone to watch a movie with, we are available. We encourage you to flick us a message via social media and/or an email as we are with you during this time
